For most people, the idea of testing premier Xbox games from the comfort of home seems quite attractive. This is especially the case if you have a passion for playing a wide range of video games. An employment opportunity that allows you to do something you love and receive a paycheck for it almost seems too good to be true. In reality, all game developers need their games to be tested by third-parties who are not their lead programmers, which mean that there are plenty of opportunities out there for you to land a high-paying job as an Xbox game tester.

Finding a job as a part time game tester for the Xbox console is not a walk in the park. You will have to search diligently for available jobs and apply for a lot of  them if you really want to land a position. In many cases this means you will need to contact the game developers directly, as it is highly unlikely that game testing jobs will be displayed within the classified ads section of your newspaper or on Craigslist. However, with a reasonable amount of determination and motivation you will likely be able to land a decent game testing job at some point or another, provided that you have the required skills to take on the job.

What Skills Do I Need?

Xbox is a video console designed by Microsoft, and most game developers using this platform are based out of the US. If you are a US citizen with several years’ worth of playing games on a regular basis, a strong attention to detail, and a good command over the English language, than you already have almost all of the qualifications you will need to help you land the part-time job of your dreams.

Being a video game tester means that you will be required to find and report any glitches, bugs, or errors that you might encounter while playing a particular game. These might include geometrical inconsistencies in level layout that compromise the overall realism of the playing world, or bugs related to difficulty accessing certain multi-player modes from your IP address. Game developers will hire you to detect any inconsistencies that managed to slip past the game's programmers, as it is through this system of mass third-party testing that companies are able to produce high-quality video games that contain few if any problems.

What Kind of Games Will I Play?

If you are hired as a game tester you will usually be sent a pre-release copy of a video game. You will then play this game for a certain amount of time and report feedback to the game's developers regularly. Because Xbox is a very large platform, the type of games you may play could be anything from first person action shooters to puzzle platforms to multi-player RPGs.
