The Game Tester Job Description

Being a game tester means more than just playing video games all day. In fact, it's actually a good amount of work. To be a good game tester, you've got to be very detail-oriented. You've got to be able to take notes on everything in the game you're testing. Once you've finished playing the game, you then have to be able to take these notes and turn them into a very detailed, informative report to send to the game company.

As you can see, you'll need a number of different skills to be a video game tester in addition to knowing how to play video games. These skills include being able to analyze games, deduce why something went wrong, note down every small detail, and know how to write well. In fact, being able to write a clear, detailed report is perhaps the most important skill you'll need as a game tester. If you can't clearly tell the game programmers what when wrong, what you were doing when it went wrong, and the outcome, they can't recreate the bug. If they can't recreate the entire incident, they may not be able to figure out how to fix the game. In that case, your testing and report aren't really helpful to them at all.
