You do have to be an excellent technical writer and it will really help if you understand a bit about programming and graphic design. One reason why a lot of people get into game testing in the first place is as a means to work as a programmer. If you are at university studying computer programming then working as a game tester part-time can be a useful experience – the two can complement each other.

There are plenty of online game tester jobs available but it is usually easier to find this type of work with an agency. You can also join one of the online game testing communities where you will get paid to test games – you may be expected to pay a small fee in order to join such a community. Once you have started to gain experience as a game tester your options will increase. If you build a good reputation you can end up finding some really well paying work – this usually doesn't happen overnight though.
