How to Write a Gaming History for Games Tester Job?
When preparing to submit your application to work as a video game tester, one of the things you may need to write is your gaming history. This is a unique document that only those who want to work in the video game industry need. It's different from a resume or list of skills, and very few career counselors or experts will be able to tell you what you need to do for a gaming history.
Make a List
The first thing to do when preparing your gaming history is to make a list of all the games you've ever played. If you've been an avid gamer for years, this may take up several pages. That's OK. You may not want to show every single game you've ever played, but you should include a good selection. Depending on what type of game testing job you're applying for, you may want to group your gaming history in several different ways.
You could group it by console. This is a good idea if you're applying to test computer games, for example. In this case, you'll want to include more computer games than console games. The same is true if you're going to test games for a company that only produces games for a specific console. If you're going to test for Nintendo, for example, you'll want to give an exhaustive list of Nintendo games you've played, but you may only want to list selected games for other systems.
Write a Gaming History
If you don't care what systems you test for, you may want to group your list according to genre. This is good if you want to test only certain types of games or want to show that you've got experience playing games from multiple genres. In this case, you may want to list what system you played the game on in parenthesis after the game title.
Regardless of which type of ordering you use, you may want to call special attention to some games. If you're applying to test games for a specific developer, you may want to list games by that developer first, then list the rest of your gaming history by console or genre. Likewise, you might want to include a section listing all the games you've beta tested if you have participated in any beta tests.
Other Information
In addition to listing the games you've played, there are a couple of other things you may want to include on your gaming history. You may want to list the year you began playing video games, the consoles you've owned, the consoles you currently own, and your favorite types of games or genres you're willing to test.
